With the minor league playoffs on the cusp, a new-look New York Mets farm system has helped several of its minor league affiliates turn their seasons around and shoot back into the playoff race. Three affiliates specifically, Triple-A Syracuse, Double-A Binghamton, and High-A Brooklyn, find themselves fighting to crack the playoff bracket in a late-season push.

Syracuse has the toughest path, as they currently sit 5.5 games behind the top of the International League standings. The team has been on a nice run lately, winning eight of their last 10 games. Unfortunately, they would need to leapfrog several teams to clinch a playoff berth.

Their run has been aided in recent days at the plate by infielder Emilien Pitre, who owns a .400 on-base percetage since his promotion from Binghamton on August 18. Pitre was part of the Mets’ return for starter Freddy Peralta from the Tampa Bay Rays at the trade deadline. Syracuse has 22 games left on their schedule.

In Binghamton, the organization’s new top prospect infielder Jefferson Rojas owns an OPS of .917 in 17 games since being acquired from the Chicago Cubs. The team looks incredibly different now than it did a month ago, due largely to an influx of talent brought in at the trading deadline.

This influx of talent includes starters Gary Gill Hill and Gabe Davis, both of whom were also brought in at the deadline and have performed very well. However, headlining this roster is 2025 first-round selection Mitch Voit, who owns a 1.087 OPS with a .500 on-base percentage this month.

With a 4.5 game defecit in the Eastern League, the Rumble Ponies have 16 games to play. They entered the week with a huge series against first-place Reading, but have lost the first two games of the series widening the gap between the two teams. They are 27-26 in the second half, a far cry from where they were just a couple weeks ago.

As for Brooklyn, they also face a 4.5 game defecit, but in the South Atlantic League. Brooklyn has two teams separating them and Greensboro who currently occupies the second-half playoff spot. Brooklyn is 29-26 in the second half. The Cyclones have just 11 games to play.

There is still a lot of work to be done if any of the three affiliates the Mets have in a playoff race want to get the job done. With that being said, it’s been an extraordinary effort by each organization after all three teams had miserable first-halfs of the season, especially Binghamton and Brooklyn. Regardless, there are encouraging developments across the board.
