RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond field hockey team made a statement in the team’s 2026 season opener at Crenshaw Field Friday afternoon, tallying a 12-0 victory over Queens University in Charlotte.
Twelve Richmond goals in a single game matches a program record, reached twice before in program history and last on October 9, 2009, when the Spiders defeated Saint Louis. The 36 points tallied in the game is tied for ninth most points in NCAA Division I history.
Richmond (1-0) is back in action on Sunday, August 30 at Crenshaw Field to host No. 6 Duke (1-0) on ESPN+. The Blue Devils collected a 7-0 victory over William & Mary in Durham Friday.
Spider goalkeepers Amanda Cimillo (1-0) and Mairead Carey both got time between the pipes but didn’t see a Queens shot on goal. The Richmond defense also held the Royals without a penalty corner, while earning 15 of their own.
Olivia Eusanio got the Spiders scoring going in the second quarter and gave Richmond a 1-0 lead heading into the half. She finished her hattrick with single goals in the third and fourth quarters.
Clara Larripa, the Spiders leading scorer last season, tallied her fifth hattrick of her Richmond career. Larripa tallied two goals in the third quarter and wrapped up her three-goal day with a successful penalty stroke to start the scoring in the fourth quarter.
Richmond, including Larripa’s penalty stroke and Eusanio’s third goal of the day, tallied eight goals in the final 15 minutes of action. Malena Magnano and Elen Nicholls picked up their first goals as Spiders.
Abril Peroni finished out the game with four-straight goals for her first collegiate points, scoring on two penalty corners, putting in a rebound and finishing a breakaway play. Fellow rookies, Maura Seeger and Eliana DeGennaro both tallied their first collegiate points on assists.
