ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) – Nine queens of Central Louisiana were recognized Saturday afternoon in royal fashion.
The Queen Bees for Christ Community Outreach hosted a celebration honoring some of Cenla’s senior women, treating them to a regal experience.
During the event, nine women between the ages of 80 and 89 walked down a special blue carpet dressed in their absolute best. The sanctuary at Family of Grace Baptist Church was completely full of community members, friends, and family who packed the church to celebrate the women’s lives and legacies.
Once the honorees walked down the carpet, they were adorned with crowns signifying their royalty and the impactful lives they have lived. Organizers said these women have dedicated their lives to faith and love and deserve to be recognized by the community they helped build.
“We go through stages of life,” said honoree Vernell Howard. “And now we’re in the, you know, I said we have spring, summer, winter, and fall. And we’re kind of in the fall of life. But anything that can kind of shine the spotlight on us and what we have done throughout the years, and just appreciate us for living to get to be this age, it’s a wonderful thing. So thank you very much.”
In addition to their crowns, each of the women was honored with a special plaque from the City of Alexandria celebrating their contributions to the community over the decades.
Leaders at Family of Grace Baptist Church said they were happy to host the celebration, and see this as a way to bridge the gap between generations and honor local matriarchs who have paved the way for those who follow in their footsteps.
