Tom Wormell of Saugerties won first place at the New York State Woodsmen’s Field Days, which took place Friday, Aug. 21, through Sunday, Aug. 23, in Boonville in Oneida County.
Competing in the Empire State Game of Logging Championship, Wormell claimed the top spot, demonstrating ability, precision, strength and expert knowledge of safe logging techniques. The event showcased loggers showcasing the skills they use in the forest, providing spectators with a glimpse into the lives of professional woodsmen.
With his victory, Wormell will advance to the national championship in Pennsylvania in June 2027.
