Harry Styles slipped in a joke about ex-girlfriend Taylor Swift’s wedding during night three of his Madison Square Garden residency on Saturday, Aug. 29.
Near the end of his set, Styles hyped the venue’s recent history before the punchline: “We’re at Madison Square Garden, home of the world champion New York Knicks!” he told the crowd. “And they also do weddings.”
The line drew loud cheers. Swift married NFL star Travis Kelce at the Garden on July 3 in a star-studded ceremony. Adam Sandler officiated, and guests included Selena Gomez, Jack Antonoff, Bradley Cooper and Lena Dunham, The Hollywood Reporter reported. Styles’ fiancée, Zoë Kravitz, attended without him. He was performing at Wembley Stadium in London that same night on his Together, Together tour, and fan footage captured him singing “Two Ghosts,” long believed to be his response to Swift’s 2014 hit “Style.”
A residency already drawing outsized attention
Styles and Swift dated from November 2012 to January 2013, a relationship widely understood to have inspired “Style.” He reportedly received a wedding invitation but couldn’t attend because of tour commitments.
The MSG residency, his first run of live shows since 2023, opened Aug. 26 and runs through Halloween. It is the sole set of U.S. stops on the Together, Together tour supporting his new album, “Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally,” released in March. Billboard reported the run drew 11.5 million presale ticket registrations in January, which Ticketmaster called the highest volume ever recorded for an artist presale.
Opening night carried its own emotional weight. Styles overhauled his setlist and paused to honor Dolly Parton, who had died the day before. “Dolly, we love you. Thank you so much,” he told the crowd before her 1974 recording of “I Will Always Love You” played over the PA.
