New York City has no shortage of places to take in its iconic skyline. You can head to Top of the Rock, look out over the city from SUMMIT One Vanderbilt, or take in Lower Manhattan from One World Observatory.
But if you want to take your skyline experience outdoors, there’s another option that puts you more than 1,100 feet above the streets. The Edge is the highest outdoor sky deck in the Western Hemisphere, offering a perspective you won’t get from a traditional observation deck.
A glass platform 100 stories above NYC

Located at 30 Hudson Yards, Edge extends outward from the building’s 100th floor, reaching 1,131 feet above the ground. The outdoor viewing area spans about 7,500 square feet and projects roughly 80 feet from the tower, giving you the sensation of standing in midair.
The design is what makes the experience particularly striking. You can step onto a glass floor and look 100 stories straight down at the streets below, while frameless glass walls angle outward around the deck, allowing you to lean toward the skyline. You’ll also find outdoor seating and a western-facing overhang where you can take in views from another angle.
From the western side of Manhattan, you get 360-degree views stretching across the city, the Hudson River, and into New Jersey and New York State. On a clear day, you can see more than 80 miles into the distance.
What else can you do around The Edge?
Since the platform is located in Hudson Yards, you can easily turn your visit into a longer afternoon around some of Manhattan’s newest attractions. Just outside the tower, you’ll find Vessel, the honeycomb-shaped landmark designed by Heatherwick Studio. You can explore its 154 interconnected staircases and 80 landings.

The neighborhood also connects directly to the High Line, making it easy to continue your walk south through one of NYC’s most distinctive public spaces. Nearby, The Shed hosts contemporary art, performances, and cultural programming, while The Shops at Hudson Yards gives you more than 100 options for shopping and dining.
