HURLEYVILLE, NY — On March 12, 2025 officers from the Town of Fallsburg Police Department responded to a residence in Hurleyville to assist the Hurleyville Fire Department and Sullivan County Fire Investigators with a structure fire.
Upon arrival, it was reported that a fire occurred inside of the garage at the residence and that evidence was present that it may have been started intentionally. Multiple vintage cars, a UTV and the interior of the garage had sustained damage from the fire.
Surveillance footage obtained from the residence showed an unknown subject make entry into the residence during the overnight where he intentionally set fire to the vehicles inside of the garage. Following a lengthy investigation by Detectives from the Town of Fallsburg Police Department, the suspect was identified as 53-year-old Steven Greco of Staten Island.
Greco was taken into police custody by Fallsburg Detectives on August 25, 2026 and was charged with the felonies of arson in the third degree and burglary in the second degree. Greco was arraigned in the Town of Fallsburg Justice Court by the Honorable Judge Scheinman and, in accordance with New York Bail Reform, was released on his own recognizance. Greco is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
Criminal charges are merely allegations that a defendant has committed violations of the criminal law, and as such they are not evidence of guilt. All defendants have a presumption of innocence and are entitled to a fair trial, during which it will be the burden of the State of New York to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
