Experts say that they are regular mining bees living beneath the East Lawn Cemetery in Ithaca New York. The area that it’s spanned for the nest was approximately 1.5 acres in sandy soil and the weight of the bees collectively was about 10,000 pounds which is insane.

You can go into shock if you get stung too many times.

Now generally these bees are not aggressive and do not produce any honey but you still have to be careful this time of the year in New York State. I recently stepped on a bee’s nest in Western New York and got stung about 12 times from my ankles all the way up to my hips and I generally don’t think that I am allergic to bees but, when you get stung by that many bees there is certainly a reaction. My heart started racing, my head started getting lighter, and I was swollen absolutely everywhere and the reaction was even coming out of my armpits.

It is called Anaphylactic Shock if you get stung by a bunch of bees where your blood pressure drops suddenly and it gets harder to breathe. It is important that if that happens call 911 immediately.
