Meteorologists from the National Weather Service in Binghamton are tracking a weather system moving into Central New York this Wednesday, bringing a heightened risk for severe thunderstorms.
And as we’ve seen so far this year, tornadoes can spin up just about anywhere in New York State.

According to meteorologists, scattered strong to severe thunderstorms, particularly during peak afternoon and evening are expected for portions of the state on Wednesday into Thursday.
Because multiple rounds of heavy rain could track over the same areas, localized flash flooding is also a possibility.
Storm Preparation Tips
Strong winds can easily turn patio furniture, garbage cans, and hanging plants into dangerous flying objects. It’s best to bring them inside your garage or tie them down securely if they need to stay outdoors during high winds.

With torrential downpours expected, ensure your home’s gutters and downspouts are clear of debris.
Also, check nearby street storm drains to keep water flowing and mitigate the risk of basement flooding.
One of the best pieces of advice during any time of the year, is to charge all cell phones and essential electronics ahead of the storms.
Keep flashlights with fresh batteries easily accessible and lower your refrigerator temperature now to keep food cold longer if the power cuts out.
