Call them the king and queen of Queens.
Two New York Lottery big-winning tickets were bought in Jackson Heights in the past few weeks, including one belonging to a Queens resident, proving that if lightning doesn’t strike twice, sometimes the lottery does.
Enrique Cabrera of Queens claimed a $1 million top prize on the New York Lottery’s $1 million Bonus Cashword July 31 scratch-off game.
Cabrera opted for a single lump-sum payment totaling $395,974, after withholdings, according to the lottery.
The ticket was bought at I & Y News & Candy, located at 74-13A Roosevelt Ave. in Jackson Heights.
As of this writing, there was one top prize remaining on the $1 million Bonus Cashword ticket.
That, however, isn’t the only big winner to come out of Jackson Heights in recent days. Jennifer Abramshe, a radiologist who lives in Brooklyn, won a top prize a little less than a month after Cabrera.
Abramshe won on Wednesday, Aug. 26, in the New York Lottery’s $2 million Cashword scratch-off game.
Rather than wait for gradual disbursements of $2 million, the New York State Lottery said Abramshe chose a single lump-sum payment totaling $795,919, after taxes.
Her winning ticket was purchased at a Bolla gas station, a ten-minute drive from the other winning site, at 71-08 Northern Blvd. in Jackson Heights.
