A New Jersey woman has been identified as the victim killed in a stabbing attack in Midtown Manhattan.
Erin Piacenti, 32, of Chester, died after being stabbed Monday afternoon near West 42nd Street and Seventh Avenue, according to the NYPD.
Police responded around 4:24 p.m. to reports of a disorderly person in the area.
Officers encountered a 49-year-old woman armed with two large knives who advanced toward them, police said.
Officers opened fire, striking the woman.
The suspect, identified as Pamela Cisneros, 49, of Queens, was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue, where she was pronounced dead, according to police. NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch says Cisneros had a documented mental health history with the NYPD. She had no history of arrests. Tisch said it was an unprovoked stabbing.
Investigators later determined that Piacenti and a 68-year-old man had both been stabbed during the incident.
The 68-year-old victim was listed in stable condition at Bellevue Hospital.
The knives were recovered at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing.
