BAYONNE, N.J. – Behind a co-championship performance from sophomore Arthur Carlier, the Kansas men’s golf team emerged victorious by two strokes at the New York Harbor Cup, the first tournament of the season played Monday-Tuesday at Bayonne Golf Club.
 
Carlier secured the co-championship with rounds of 67-68-66, good for a total of 201 strokes which left him 12-under par for the event. He entered the day in fourth place and shot the low round of the day on Tuesday with a 66, moving into a share of the lead with Jenson Forrester of Purdue. Kansas led the tournament throughout, shooting 15-under in Monday’s first round to lead by seven shots. Purdue climbed back to within one stroke at the end of Monday’s second round, before KU held off the Boilermakers and won the tournament by two. 
 
“Total team effort and a great win today,” Kansas coach Jamie Bermel said after the tournament. “We hung in there and we’re obviously proud of Arthur, who had a great round of golf today. We led the tournament start to finish, which is hard to do, especially in the first tournament of the season.”
 
For Kansas, the season-opening victory marks the 17th team title of Bermel’s tenure and the 54th team title in program history. KU’s last team victory was last season at the Hoosier Collegiate, played on April 18-19, 2026 at The Pfau Course in Bloomington, Indiana. 
 
Carlier’s co-championship marks his first collegiate victory. It is also the 17th individual win by a Jayhawk under Coach Bermel and the 58th individual win in program history. Carlier carded all three rounds in the 60’s, and has now recorded 12 rounds in the 60’s in his career. His 54-hole total of 201 strokes is tied for the fifth-lowest in school history. Carlier becomes KU’s first individual event winner since Will King topped the field at the Hawkeye Invitational on April 13-14, 2025.

Purdue finished in second at 829 (-23), followed by Little Rock (-11), Michigan State (-11), and Rutgers (-6) to round out the top five. 
 
Making his collegiate debut, freshman Nicolas Vidal Reig made a strong first impression as he recorded a third place finish at 9-under par. Vidal Reig was the co-leader after two rounds on Monday, before firing an even-par round in the final round to finish three shots off the lead. He finished the tournament with scores of 66-67-71 (-9), and carded 15 birdies throughout the tournament. 
 
Junior Ty Lasley finished the tournament with scores of 66-72-73 (-2), and carded 10 birdies with one eagle throughout the rounds. Lasley tied for 13th place individually, marking his second top 10 finish of his career. 
 
Senior Will Baker carded one round under par during the opening round of the tournament with a 70 (-1), and finished the tournament with scores of 70-72-71 (E). Baker carded 12 birdies and tied for T17th place individually, marking his seventh top 20 finish of his career. 
 
Junior Hartej Grewal tied for T34th place individually and put together his best round on Monday during round two, and shot a 70 (-1). Grewal carded nine birdies throughout the tournament and finished with scores of 75-70-74 (+6). 
 
Freshman Brady Rapp, who competed as an individual throughout the event, finished with scores of 79-73-75 (+14) and tied for 47 place individually.
 
“We have a short turnaround before our next event,” Bermel added. “We need to get a few things tightened up before we head to Michigan for the Folds of Honor.”
