BAYONNE, N.J. – The Marquette University men’s golf team opened its fall season with a tie for sixth place at the New York Harbor Cup, finishing at 2-under-par 850 (276-283-291) after 54 holes at Bayonne Golf Club. 

Senior Ryan Banas led the way for the Golden Eagles, carding rounds of 69-67-70 to finish tied for fourth overall at 7-under-par 206. It was the lowest 54-hole score of Banas’ career. His fourth-place finish was also the best of his career.

Vincent Cervantes tied for ninth at 4-under-par 209 after opening the tournament with an 8-under-par 63 in Monday’s first round. The 63 tied the second-lowest score in program history.

Mason Schmidtke posted a 1-over-par 214 (72-70-72) to tie for 19th, while Wyatt Chapman tied for 43rd at 10-over-par 223. Holden Orofino rounded out the Marquette lineup in 52nd place at 15-over-par 228. 

Marquette sat among the tournament leaders after an opening-round 280 (-8) and remained under par for the championship despite a challenging final round. The Golden Eagles finished tied with USF in the nine-team field. 

Kansas captured the team title at 25-under-par, two shots ahead of Purdue. Kansas’ Arthur Carlier and Purdue’s Jenson Forrester shared medalist honors at 12-under-par 201. 

Marquette individual Regan Konen finished tied for 47th at 14-over-par 227.
