GEDDES, N.Y. — Monday is Law Enforcement Day at the Great New York State Fair. All active-duty and retired law enforcement receive free admission when they show their badge at the entrance. Around 11:15 a.m., just outside the Horticulture Building, the fair held a special ceremony.

New York State Attorney General Letitia James said Monday was about reflecting on the lives of the men and women who gave their lives in the line of duty.

“I know the loss is great. I know the pain lingers,” said Attorney General James, speaking to law enforcement families. “Please remember that you are not alone and you’ll always be part of this proud law enforcement community and family. As long as we continue to say their names and honor them, they will live forever in our hearts and in our minds.”

James said no words capture the depths of their loss.
