BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, Ohio (WOIO) – The Brooklyn Heights Police Department welcomed a new member of its force Monday who will carry on the name and memory of an Euclid officer killed in the line of duty.
The department posted Wednesday news of its newest K-9, Jake, named in honor of Officer Jacob Derbin, who was killed in the line of duty in May 2024.

“We’re proud to carry on his name and memory through our K-9 program,” the department said. “Jake has plenty of growing and training ahead of him, and we look forward to sharing his journey with our community.”

Jake will be sworn in at the Sept. 15 Village Council meeting.
The department also thanked everyone who has donated to its K-9 program, citing those donations as making Jake’s arrival possible.
