The Osseo Area School District is asking for name and logo suggestions for the new community school currently under construction in Brooklyn Park at the former Crest View Elementary.
The new community school is set to open fall 2027. Planned uses for the building include early childhood programming; intercultural and heritage-focused preschool; family and community engagement; and an American Indian Cultural Center featuring Dakota and Ojibwe language-learning opportunities.
Submissions gathered through a Google Form, available at bit.ly/4x4ISeW, will be reviewed this fall by a group of community members and district staff. That group will select one or multiple options to share with Superintendent Kim Hiel, who will then make a final recommendation to the Osseo Area School Board that will be voted on at an Oct. 20 meeting.
The district notes that many existing educational sites are named after nearby geographic elements or features. Submissions that include names of people will not be considered, in accordance with school board policy.
Residents who want to participate in the selection process can send an email to betterfuture@district279.org. Meetings are tentatively scheduled for 4 p.m. on Sept. 17 and 24.
Sketched logos can also be submitted to the email listed above.
