SOUTHEAST – A fatal truck crash on Interstate 84 at the New York-Connecticut state line snarled westbound traffic along the superhighway for hours Wednesday.
The mishap occurred when, according to Connecticut State Police, an 18-wheeler operated by 42-year-old Jason Valarezo of Manchester, New Hampshire, rear-ended another tractor-trailer that was parked on the shoulder near an off-ramp just east of the Putnam County border.
Emergency crews from New York and Connecticut responded and found Valarezo with injuries described as fatal.
Traffic backed up for miles while crews reconstructed the crash.
Local roads throughout greater Brewster and Southeast also resembled parking lots due to vehicles exiting the interstate in Danbury and accessing local roads to Route 684.
