What is the Gorillaz House of Kong experience?
The Gorillaz House of Kong experience is a comprehensive dive into the many elements that make up the world of Gorillaz. Created in 1998 by Damon Albarn and artist Jamie Hewlett, the virtual band is made up of four animated characters: 2-D (vocalist), Murdoc Niccals (bass player), Noodle (guitarist), and Russel Hobbs (drummer).
Per a press release, the House of Kong experience “chronicles the ascent of these four outsiders – bassist Murdoc Niccals, singer 2D, drummer Russel Hobbs and guitarist Noodle – from their first coming together to blow up a pre-digital world with the release of ‘Tomorrow Comes Today’ up to the inception of this year’s critically acclaimed global chart-topping ninth album, The Mountain.”
The exhibition itself features exclusive, never-before-seen sketches from Hewlett’s creation of the band, music video storyboards, a massive 3-D model of the Plastic Beach island depicted on the eponymous album, and a variety of other artifacts. Exclusive, special-edition merch items are also on sale at the gift shop.
