OurBus expands weekend travel options from Binghamton to New York City suburbs

  • September 3, 2026

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WBNG) — OurBus is expanding its travel options for students and residents, adding direct weekend service from Binghamton to key destinations in the New York City suburbs.

Travel service OurBus announced it is adding direct weekend connections to Middletown, Nanuet, Fresh Meadows in Queens and Melville on Long Island beginning Thursday, Sept. 3.

This addition extends the company’s current Binghamton-to-New York City service beyond just Manhattan.

“Starting today, we’re starting a new route that connects Binghamton to some of the suburbs of the New York City area that are the hometowns of a lot of the students, so it’s a different route from Binghamton,” said Axel Hellman, co-founder of OurBus.

The new connections build on the company’s service expansion implemented in Binghamton and Ithaca earlier this year.

The service will primarily run on weekends, as the schedule was created around traveling Binghamton University students.

“It’s mainly designed for students traveling home on the weekends, but anyone is welcome to use it. It will be a valuable addition to the transportation network up there in Binghamton,” Hellman said.

OurBus said extra trips will operate around longer weekends and peak college travel periods.

The new schedule restores a direct Binghamton-to-Long Island option that was offered before the COVID-19 pandemic. It will decrease the need for a separate Manhattan connection, according to OurBus.

“We’ve gotten a lot of comments, both from the students and from the parents of the students, who are usually the ones booking the travel. They say, ‘Oh, that’s nice, but we’re out in Long Island, 45 miles away. That doesn’t really do much good for us. Why don’t you come to our town?’ Well, the other stops on the route are Queens, Nanuet in Rockland County and Middletown in Orange County,” Hellman said.

Hellman explained that the route also serves SUNY Cortland and Cornell. Additionally, OurBus officials are looking into extending routes to even more locations.

“We’re also exploring extending the route, which continues from Binghamton West to Syracuse, Rochester and Buffalo. We’re considering extending that all the way to Toronto,” Hellman said.
