The Off-Broadway production of the long-running slapstick comedy The Play That Goes Wrong says goodbye to Trevor Braun September 3 at New World Stages.
Braun, who has played over 1,500 performances as Dennis in the international hit, will be succeeded by Adam Langdon beginning September 14. During the interim period, Blair Baker and Brandon Haagenson will alternate as Dennis.
Langdon previously played Christopher in the North American tour of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, earning a Helen Hayes Award nomination for his performance. Off-Broadway he has performed in Titus Andronicus, The New Englanders, and Timon of Athens.
Now in its ninth year in New York, the cast also currently features Joanie Anderson as Annie, Kolby Kindle as Trevor, David McElwee as Chris, Samuel Douglas as Max, Greg Balla as Jonathan, Brent Bateman as Robert, Liana Hunt as Sandra, and understudies Blair Baker, Laura D’Andre, Brandon Haagenson, and Jemma Jane.
Co-created by Mischief company members Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer, and Henry Shields, The Play That Goes Wrong
invites audiences to the Cornley University Drama Society as they
perform… or at least attempt to perform… a 1920s murder mystery,
only for every live theatre snafu possible to befall the beleaguered
cast.
Directed by Mark Bell, the production premiered in London in 2012,
eventually moving to the West End and winning an Olivier for Best New
Comedy. A Broadway transfer opened in 2017, and moved to its current
Off-Broadway home in 2019.
The production features set design by Nigel Hook, costume design by
Roberto Surace, lighting design by Jeremy Cunningham, and sound design by Beth Lake. Matt DiCarlo is the current director.
The original Broadway production was directed by Bell and featured lighting design by Ric Mountjoy and sound design by Andrew Johnson.
