TULLY, N.Y. — The New York State Police identified the Binghamton woman killed in a weather-related crash in the Town of Tully, N.Y., on Sept. 2.
The state police identified the driver as Paige M. O’Donnell, 24. She was pronounced deceased on the scene after losing control and crashing while heading northbound on I-81
On Sept. 2, troopers responded to the crash involving O’Donnell’s 2023 Subaru and a Peterbilt tractor-trailer.
Authorities say O’Donnell was in the passing lane when she lost control of her Subaru on the wet roadway. The Subaru subsequently struck a guiderail before entering the travel lanes and colliding at a right angle with the trailer.
The weather that the state police believe contributed to the crash caused parts of the Great New York State Fair to flood. Tully is around 23 miles south of the fairgrounds, which is located in Geddes, N.Y. The fair was forced to close its gates temporarily due to the flooding. The fairgrounds reopened around 12:30 p.m.
The fair would eventually close early again at 6 p.m. due to another round of severe weather. The fair typically closes at 11 p.m.
Tully Fire and EMS also assisted at the scene. The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
