A Rochester resident was killed and another person was seriously injured when a tractor-trailer struck their disabled pickup on the New York State Thruway early Friday morning, according to New York State Police.
The crash happened on Interstate 90 in the town of Newstead around 2:30 a.m. Investigators said the tractor-trailer was traveling west when it struck the pickup on the right shoulder.
The pickup’s driver, identified as Olive Wesley, 61, of Rochester, died at the scene. Their passenger, a 62-year-old Rochester man, was taken to Erie County Medical Center in serious condition.
The tractor-trailer driver, a 30-year-old from Ontario, Canada, was not hurt. Police said field sobriety tests showed no signs of impairment.
The investigation remains ongoing.
