Union calls out MLC for ‘veiled threat’ over worker health data sharing

Push for 75 percent participation in program to unlock savings

Union leaders are pushing back against a Municipal Labor Committee effort to expand participation in a health data-sharing program under city workers’ new healthcare plan, raising concerns about member consent, insurers’ financial incentives and the potential use of health information to manage costs.

In an Aug. 24 email to union leaders, the MLC executive board said roughly 60 percent of New York City Public Employees’ PPO members were participating in the program and urged unions that had not yet signed on to join.
