The devastated daughter of a Brooklyn father of four who died Friday after another man cold-cocked him, causing him to strike his head on the pavement outside his building, said she couldn’t bear the pain of telling her younger siblings their father was dead.
Florencio Ramos Martinez, 42, was arguing with another man outside his building on Grattan St. near Varick Ave. in Bushwick when his rival punched him around 3:40 a.m., cops said.
The blow sent him reeling back onto the pavement, where he hit his head, police sources said.
“He punched my dad… in the back of his head. He fell on the concrete. Instantly knocked him out,” the victim’s daughter, 24-year-old Jennifer Ramos, told the Daily News through tears.
“I’m devastated,” she said. “I just want to wake up.”
Medics brought the victim to Elmhurst Hospital, where he died a short time later.
“They told us that he had no pulse,” Ramos said. “So already (on the way) to the hospital, he was already dead. They tried.”
Ramos Martinez’s youngest children, including a 6-year-old boy and an 8-year-old daughter, remained unaware of the tragedy Friday night.
“They don’t know anything yet,” said Ramos, who also has a 21-year-old sister. “We haven’t told them anything. We don’t know how to tell them.”
The victim’s daughter said she was sleeping when her cousin’s screams awoke her, and she ran outside.
“(My dad) was already on the floor,” she said. “They were doing CPR.”
Ramos suspects a neighbor killed her father, saying the pair have quarreled in the past.
“(My neighbor) is a very problematic person,” she said.
It was not immediately clear why the two men were arguing, cops said. There was no arrest.
Cops were scouring the area looking for surveillance footage to track the assailant’s escape.
Ramos Martinez was a construction worker and enjoyed fishing.
“He was going to go fishing today,” Ramos said. “He was actually excited to fish.”
