But this September, your neighborhood bodega run comes with an especially sweet perk: you can grab a meal and walk out without paying a single cent.
This fall, eight award-winning chefs are taking over five Manhattan bodegas on Thursday, September 17, to serve free gourmet lunches to New Yorkers.
Hosted by chef-led marketplace CookUnity, “The Most Legendary Lunch Break” pop-up celebrates the city’s iconic corner stores by offering anyone who walks in a signature dish on the house.
🥪 What to expect at “The Most Legendary Lunch Break“
For three hours only on Thursday, September 17, chef-led meal marketplace CookUnity is taking over select delis and corner stores across Manhattan. Founded in NYC nearly a decade ago, CookUnity is returning to its roots to bring high-end culinary craft right to the corner bodega.
Anyone who walks into one of the participating locations will leave with a complimentary signature dish prepared by award-winning chefs. Here’s what to expect on-site:
Restaurant-Quality Meals To-Go: Choose from full, cold-packaged CookUnity meals designed for quick transport, or grab hot bites served straight from behind the counter (while supplies last)
Self-Serve Microwaves: Heat up your meal immediately on-site if you want to enjoy your gourmet lunch right there in the neighborhood
Bodega Scratch-Off Lottery: Every guest receives a classic bodega-style scratch-off ticket for a chance to win free CookUnity meals for an entire year, plus special dining experiences at participating chefs’ restaurants
🚨 Pro-tip: Arrive Before 11:30 am. Lines are expected to stretch down the block at all five locations. Get in line before the doors open at 11:30 am to ensure you get a meal before supplies run out.
