Sources say a 5-year-old child was home and answered the door when police showed up for the wellness check on West 156th Street.

Police have identified the victim as Lovay Williams.

The wellness check was conducted at around 1:30 p.m. on Sunday. Officers found Williams unconscious and unresponsive, and she was declared dead at the scene.

The incident has left neighbors feeling unsettled.

“It’s definitely surprising,” said one neighbor. “This is a lively, safe-feeling block.”

The victim’s death is now under investigation by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
