NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) – There are delays at LaGuardia and Newark Airports due to air traffic control staffing on Sunday, according to the FAA.

Newark travelers are expected to see, on average, two-hour delays until midnight, according to the FAA. LaGuardia travelers are seeing 30-minute delays, on average.

“Due to increased number of travelers at [LaGuardia], allow extra time for on-airport travel, check-in and security,” officials said in a post to X.

The government shutdown stretched into its 40th day on Sunday, disrupting flights nationwide. All three major airports in the tri-state area are expected to have their flights reduced as part of nationwide air traffic cuts by the FAA.

U.S. airlines canceled more than 2,500 weekend flights by Saturday, according to the tracking website FlightAware.
