Northern New York woman celebrates 100th birthday
Theresa Batchelder of Malone celebrated her 100th birthday and shared some words of wisdom on her big day.
MALONE, N.Y. —
A birthday party a century in the making took place in Malone on Monday for a woman who turned 100 years old.
Theresa Batchelder grew up in Owl’s Head, New York. She lived there until 1998, when she moved to Sunset Valley Apartments in Malone. Her daughter and grandkids flew up from Florida to celebrate this milestone with her and her friends from the residential community.
“I just feel that you can’t hold a grudge,” Batchelder said when asked what advice she has for younger generations. “My father used to say that. Never go to bed angry at anybody. Make up to them before you go to bed, because you never know what’s going to happen.”
Batchelder’s family owned their own restaurant throughout her childhood, where she worked as a waitress for many years. After Theresa graduated from high school in 1944, she got married and became a stay-at-home mom. She is most proud of her family and said she was excited that she could celebrate with them today.
Batchelder also spent several years working at Sunset Valley Apartments and even saw the building being built. She knew from the moment she saw the property that she wanted to live there.
