The cross country season has officially kicked off for the Emporia High Spartans as they opened the year with a road trip to Manhattan. The Spartans had a runner place third and overall had a solid outing in Manhattan.
Emma Beatty led the way for the Spartans, earning a bronze medal in Manhattan. Following her were Madison Evans, who finished 15th, and Ivanna Orduno, who finished 18th. On the boys’ side of the event, Xaden Delgado was the best placer in 30th place. Manhattan took home the team title in the girls’ event, while Washburn Rural took home the boys’ side of the event.
The Spartans had a solid day in Manhattan, but will look to improve upon it when they return home to Jones Park on Sept. 12. They will look to put together a strong home showing and start building off the solid start to the season.
