Inaugural Break Boards Build Hope Fundraiser for RUMC at St. Island Academy
Master CJ, a seasoned Taekwondo instructor with over 30 years of experience, opened Legacy Martial Arts in November 2024 with a mission to give back to the Staten Island community.
Deeply inspired by his late grandmother, Sandra —who played a pivotal role in his life and passed away from esophageal cancer — CJ was moved to support cancer research during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The fundraising initiative brought together students, families and community members to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research. Participants contributed through various activities, including purchasing pink belts, donating for pink t-shirts, and collecting sponsorships — all culminating in the impactful board-breaking event.
Thanks to the collective efforts of the Legacy Martial Arts community and its supporters, the event successfully raised $10,000 for the RUMC Breast Cancer Center.
“We are committed to making this an annual tradition,” said CJ. “Our goal is to create a lasting impact and continue supporting vital causes within the Staten Island community.”
