Loretta Swit, best known for playing Major Margaret J “Hot Lips” Houlihan on M*A*S*H, died with no immediate family, Closer can reveal.
Legal documents obtained by Closer show that Swit — who died from natural causes at age 87 in May 2025 — had no spouse, no children, no parents, no siblings and no grandparents at the time of her death.
In her will, obtained by Closer, Swit named two friends as coexecutors of her estate. The will was signed in May 2005.
“Decedent had no surviving immediate family members. A search is underway to identify any distributes,” state court documents filed by the two coexecutors.
The Emmy Award winner — who was married to Dennis Holahan from 1983 until their divorce was made final in 1995 — appears to have only left behind a $900,000 New York City co-op apartment with a $426,700 mortgage held by City National Bank, according to the documents.
In the docs, it states that the approximate value of all her property is greater than $500,000 but less than $1 million. However, she had no other personal property aside from the NYC apartment.
While it is unclear how much or how little Swit left behind, the documents state that the Love Boat alum also had a trust titled Sweet Cherub Trust. It is unknown how much money — if anything at all — is in the trust.
A statement from her former publicist said he had “nothing to do with her financial status or estate.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, a police report around the time of her death stated that she died at her home in New York City.
Swit previously told People that she was “not interested in being married,” adding: “I have a career and friends and things I care about doing.”
“I don’t want a lot of other demands,” she said. “And, thanks to Alan [Alda], who has deep insight about women, I don’t feel guilty anymore about not wanting a family. My parents and friends are my family.”
