Business Insider’s inaugural flagship event, The Long Play, brings together influential leaders and executives for candid conversations about what it takes to build for the long term through periods of change, crises, and technological disruption.
The event takes place on Thursday, October 29, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Perelman Performing Arts Center (PAC NYC) in Lower Manhattan. Through one-on-one, in-depth interviews BI journalists and decision-makers across media, tech, entertainment, and finance will examine the choices, risks, and opportunities that shape businesses built to last. BI Today’s Executive Editor, Dan DeFrancesco, will guide the day’s conversations.
“Every company that lasts has been through at least one moment where the old model stopped working and nobody was sure what came next.” Christian Baesler, Business Insider CEO, says. “The Long Play is about those moments: how people and companies got through them, what they got wrong, and what they’d tell someone facing the same thing today. It’s a chance to bring Business Insider’s journalism to life in the room and create a more direct relationship with our audience.”
On the agenda:
Peter Kafka sits down with media titan Barry Diller, whose career has spanned network television, Hollywood, and the early internet. They’ll discuss what resilience really requires: timing, nerve, and knowing when to move on from what is still working.
Carolyn Tisch Blodgett, Governor of Gotham FC and co-owner of the New York Giants, joins Dan DeFrancesco to discuss what it takes to build sports businesses for a new generation of fans. She’ll explore how to spot new opportunities and turn cultural momentum into lasting business growth.
Smartbird CEO and President Nadia Carlsten joins Ben Bergman to discuss the company’s high-stakes bet on AI infrastructure—and how leaders earn credibility with customers and investors when a business pivots.
Take-Two Interactive Software Chairman and CEO Strauss Zelnick talks with Sarah E. Needleman about the enduring power of “Grand Theft Auto,” the challenge of bringing a defining franchise to a new generation, and long-term thinking behind building an entertainment company.
More speakers to be announced in the coming weeks.
The Long Play extends Business Insider’s journalism into a participatory live experience. Attendees will join facilitated lunchtime conversations on the ideas, risks, and relationships shaping business today, take part in curated interactive experiences between sessions, and continue the conversation at an evening reception.
The program is sponsored by TRAC.
