New York State Police’s Labor Day campaign led to 11,201 tickets, with over 1,200 issued in WNY and 17 people arrested for DWI in the region.
BUFFALO, N.Y. — New York State Police issued over 11,000 tickets over the Labor Day weekend enforcement campaign.
According to State Police, 11,201 tickets were issued and 253 people were arrested for driving while intoxicated during their four-day Labor Day weekend.

The statewide operation ran from Friday, Sept. 4, through Monday, Sept. 7, with troopers using sobriety checkpoints, additional DWI patrols and targeted impaired and distracted driving. The campaign was partially funded by the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee.
Troopers investigated 632 crashes over the weekend, including five fatal crashes. Speeding was the most common targeted violation, with 3,935 tickets issued across the state. Troopers also cited 308 drivers for distracted driving, 746 for seat belt violations and 234 for violations of the state’s Move Over Law.
In Western New York, 17 people were arrested for DWI, 359 speeding tickets were issued. Nine tickets were issued for distracted driving, and eight were issued for Move Over violations. In total, 1,211 tickets were issued in the region.
The number of tickets and DWI arrests both increased from last year’s Labor Day campaign. During the 2025 operation, State Police issued 9,912 tickets and arrested 225 people for DWI.
The largest number of tickets were issued on the New York State Thruway (I-90 and I-87) with 1,864 tickets, including 736 speeding violations. Troopers also made 34 DWI arrests on the highway.
