A new report from the Alliance for Quality Education (AQE), What Students and Families Lose When School Districts Face Budget Pressure, digs into how statewide funding decisions impact the families that live in those districts, and the students that attend those schools.
Multiple upstate New York state districts were examined, including Rochester, Hudson and Cambridge. While the individual pressures changed from district to district, the consequences for students and families often looked similar: fewer teachers, fewer transportation options, fewer counselors.
AQE’s co-executive director Marina Marcou-O’Malley joined Capital Tonight’s Susan Arbetter to discuss the challenges that school districts face and how AQE would like them to be addressed.
