SALINA, N.Y. — One person was killed in a crash in the Town of Salina, the New York State Police said on Thursday.
The state police identified the deceased as Gary S. Zimmer, 85, of Syracuse.
Troopers responded to a report of the crash at the intersection of Oswego Road and Liverpool Bypass Road on Sept. 3 around 1:25 p.m.
A preliminary investigation determined a 2015 Lexus driving by Zmmer was traveling south on Oswego Road and tried to turn onto Liverpool Bypass Road.
However, Zimmer turned in front of a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe, resulting in a collision, the police said. The investigation determined that Zimmer failed to yield the right of way for the Hyundai.
Zimmer and his passenger, an 84-year-old woman of Syracuse, were transported by ambulance to Upstate University Hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the Hyundai, a 21-year-old from Syracuse, was also taken to Upstate Hospital with serious injuries.
The police said they were notified that Zimmer died at the hospital on Sept. 9. The condition of the woman and the 21-year-old were not released.
The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
