One person died after an explosion on a docked barge caused a two-alarm fire at a Staten Island shipping yard, authorities said.

The incident occurred at approximately 2:37 p.m. in a shipping container located at 3249 Richmond Terrace, between South Avenue and Arlington Avenue. 54 units and 160 personnel were on the scene to assist with the emergency and hazardous materials. Firefighters extinguished the blaze.

Two firefighters sustained minor injuries at the barge.

Chopper 4 flew over the site, where a large number of emergency vehicles were visible. The property is listed as “Clean Water of New York.”
