Several streets throughout Lower Manhattan will be closed Friday morning as the city prepares for the commemoration of the 25th Anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, police officials said.
Beginning at 6 a.m., no vehicular traffic will be allowed south of Canal Street to Battery Place and from Broadway over to West Street, Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said at a briefing Wednesday.
The southbound lanes on Broadway will remain open to traffic with a ban on all trucks.
The Hugh L. Carey/Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel will remain open. Guests heading to the ceremony should exit heading south for access to the FDR Drive, she said.
At the same time, the MTA No. 1 train will bypass the WTC/Cortland St. station, officials said.
Mayor Mamdani encouraged all New Yorkers to avoid driving in lower Manhattan Friday because of the “significant street closures around Ground Zero.”
Pedestrian crossings will remain available on Church, Barclay, and Liberty Sts., and on West St. at Murray and Albany Sts.
For those invited to the ceremony, which will not be open to the public, security will screen guests at checkpoints on Greenwich, Vesey, and Liberty Sts., officials said.
