BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Brooklyn FC Men announced on Thursday the signing of midfielder Anthony Fontana.
Fontana will be available for Saturday’s match at home against Miami FC, pending league and federation approval.
“We are excited to add Anthony to the squad we have here,” head coach Marlon LeBlanc said. “His ability to create attacking opportunities is a welcome addition, and he can make an immediate contribution to the team.”
A native of Newark, Del., Fontana grew up as part of the Philadelphia Union Academy, making his debut with the MLS team at the age of 18. He competed in the USL Championship as a member of the Bethlehem Steel, the Union’s second team at the time.
He was a part of the Union squad that won the MLS Supporters’ Shield in 2020 and competed in the CONCACAF Champions League the next season.
In more than 50 appearances for the Union in all competitions, Fontana scored 12 goals for the club.
In 2022, Fontana made a move to Europe, spending time with Italian club Ascoli in Serie B and with Dutch club PEC Zwolle.
He returned to the USL Championship last season, with the Colorado Springs Switchbacks, playing 16 times.
