Father Vincent Capodanno’s family wants his story shared beyond Staten Island, where he is remembered for his faith and service. Rev. Vincent Capodanno, an Elm Park resident and U.S. Navy chaplain during the Vietnam War, was killed while ministering to wounded Marines on Sept. 4, 1967. He was later named a Medal of Honor recipient and a Servant of God in May 2006 by the Catholic Church. Al Lambert, his second cousin, says an awareness petition on Change.org is meant to spread his story and build support for sainthood. Craig Syracusa is meeting with studios and actors for a feature film titled “Operation Swift,” planned to begin filming in 2027. Rep. Nicole Malliotakis and other officials joined the family at Fort Wadsworth, saying Capodanno deserves much more recognition, and his canonization remains at the first stage.
