Sept. 11 is always a solemn day for the New York City Police Department.

Twenty-three NYPD members died in the line of duty as they responded to the collapse of the World Trade Center towers. Many more have died or been severely affected by illnesses linked to the attacks.

Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch joined “Mornings On 1” from the National Sept. 11 Memorial in Lower Manhattan Friday morning to reflect on the 25th anniversary of the attacks.
