The daughter of two Big Apple heroes honored their memory 25 years after the Sept. 11 attacks — and just days after one succumbed to a 9/11-related illness.
Lt. John P. Napolitano’s daughter revealed that her grandfather, retired NYPD officer John Napolitano, Sr., died Monday “after courageously battling a post 9/11 illness,” his obituary states.
“But I find peace knowing that they’re finally together again,” the young woman said at the annual remembrance ceremony.
Napolitano, Jr., 33, is widely remembered for his bravery during the attacks.
He ran into the North Tower with FDNY’s Rescue 2.
His father spent weeks after the tragedy searching Ground Zero in search of his hero son, who is survived by his two daughters.
“What an honor it is to be one of your girls,” Napolitano’s daughter said at the ceremony.
“There’s not a day that goes by that we don’t think of you, tell stories about you and laugh with you. You will always live on in us.”
