New York State Trooper Timothy Neumuth is reflecting on his experience at Ground Zero and the health effects he continues to face 25 years after the September 11th attacks.
Neumuth was working at the State Police barracks in Newburgh on 9/11, helping coordinate troopers heading to New York City. He was later sent to Ground Zero, where he helped search for survivors.
Neumuth said he later developed lung problems, asthma and GERD following his time there.
Neumuth attended the 25th anniversary remembrance at Hickories Park in Owego. He now shares his experiences with students as part of his work with schools.
“If they ask questions about 9/11, I’ll bring it up and I’ll share some of my experiences and explain to them what happened so they don’t forget,” Neumuth said.
