A representative of the New York State Attorney General’s Office says they’re investigating a contract between the town of Lancaster and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
ICE intends to award a no-bid contract to the town. The deal would extend an agreement already in place that allows ICE to rent out storage space from the police department.
According to a document posted to a government website, the storage space is the only location that satisfies all of ICE’s needs for storing equipment.
In a statement to Spectrum News 1, the police department says that the contract complies with New York’s Local Cops, Local Crime Act, which bans state and local law enforcement from entering ICE cooperation agreements.
