New York man charged with kidnapping after South Carolina teen goes missing
SPARTANBURG, S.C. —
A New York man has been charged with kidnapping after an Upstate teenager went missing on Friday.
The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to Cromwell Drive just before 5 p.m. to a report of a missing 14-year-old juvenile.
Family members and friends told deputies that the juvenile had been talking to someone who claimed to be from New York. Investigators were able to identify this person as 22-year-old Ceasar Daniel Palacios-Escalon of Long Island.
Deputies say Palacios-Escalon had been in the area around the time of the juvenile’s disappearance and was traveling towards his residence in New York.
In a coordinated effort with New York State Police, investigators located Palacios-Escalon and the missing juvenile at around 1 a.m. on Saturday.
Authorities say they placed the juvenile into protective custody, and Palacios-Escalon was arrested by New York officials.
Deputies obtained an arrest warrant charging Palacios-Escalon with kidnapping. He is currently being held in New York on other local charges.
The investigation remains active, and no additional information will be released at this time.
