NEW YORK – The Hellenic Film Society announced the return of the New York Greek Film Expo, a celebration of Greek cinema taking place October 8-18, at premier venues in New York and New Jersey. This year’s Expo includes a tribute to iconic filmmaker Michael Cacoyannis.
The New York Greek Film Expo showcases the best of contemporary Greek filmmaking alongside special presentations, filmmaker appearances, discussions and events celebrating the rich history and diversity of Greek cinema.
The 2026 Expo will feature 12 films, representing a range of genres and stories from Greece.
Katia Goulioni, one of Greece’s most acclaimed actresses, will be hosting the Expo.
This year’s Expo will feature screenings at the DGA Theater and the Village East by Angelika in Manhattan, Melrose Ballroom in Long Island City, the Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria, and the Barrymore Film Center in Fort Lee, NJ
The program includes feature films, filmmakers as well as actor appearances/speakers, and Q&A sessions.
On Thursday, October 8, the Opening Night film is ‘Hold Onto Me’, the winner of the 2026 Sundance Film Festival Audience Award (World Cinema Dramatic Competition), written and directed by Myrsini Aristidou who will participate in a Q&A along with lead actor Christos Passalis, at the DGA Theater, 110 West 57th Street in Manhattan, 7 PM.
On Friday, October 9, ‘Broken Vein’, directed by Yannis Economides will be screened and followed by a Q&A with writer Vangelis Mourikis, at the Village East Cinemas, 12th Street and 2nd Avenue, 7 PM.
On Saturday, October 10, ‘Life in a Beat’, directed by Amerissa Basta, will be screened, followed by a Q&A with Basta and producer and writer Dimitris Nakos, at the Village East Cinemas, 6 PM. At 8:30 PM, ‘Patty is Such a Girly Name’, directed by Giorgos Georgopoulos, will be screened, followed by a Q&A with the director, also at Village East Cinemas.
The screenings at the Village East Cinemas wrap up on Sunday, October 11 beginning at 1:30 PM with ‘Rooster’, directed by Tassos Gerakinis, who will participate in the post-screening Q&A. At 4 PM, ’Last Call’, directed by Sherif Francis will be screened, followed by the Q&A with supporting actor Yiorgos Benos. ‘Receptions’, directed by Filippos Tsitos, will be screened at 6:30 PM.
On Tuesday, October 13, 7:30 PM, ‘Hold Onto Me’, directed by Myrsini Aristidou, will be screened at the Barrymore Film Center, 1 Park Avenue, Fort Lee, NJ.
On Wednesday, October 14, 7 PM, a Special Event Film Screening and After Party will be held at Melrose Ballroom, 3608 33rd Street in Long Island City, NY, with ‘Cavo Paradiso Mykonos: 30 Years of History’, directed by Adonis Theocharis Kioukas who will participate in a Q&A. Special Guest for the event is Odysseus “DJ Ody Roc” Delasoudas.
The tribute to legendary filmmaker Michael Cacoyannis takes place at the Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria, beginning on Friday, October 16, 7 PM, with ‘Girl in Black’ and continues on Saturday, October 17, 6:30 PM, with ‘Zorba the Greek’. The tribute concludes with two films on Sunday, October 18, ‘Windfall in Athens’ at 3 PM, and ‘Stella’ at 6 PM.
