New York City’s airports were returning to normal on Sunday afternoon, following morning ground stops and subsequent delays spurred by thunderstorms rolling through the area.
John F. Kennedy Airport had departure delays averaging about 25 minutes just before 4 p.m., according to FlightAware. LaGuardia Airport had no significant delays.
Earlier, at Kennedy, a ground stop began at 6:46 a.m. and was lifted at 9:45 a.m., the FAA reported on its website. An earlier ground stop at LaGuardia was also lifted.
At one point, the FAA said passengers should expect 75-minute delays on their flights through the morning.
Things were pretty much on schedule at Long Island MacArthur Airport. One flight to Boston was canceled. An evening flight to North Carolina was delayed.
