Wild Center secures New York’s first permanent Dambo troll
Danish artist Thomas Dambo brought a traveling installation to the Wild Center this summer. The museum has been fundraising to commission a permanent sculpture, which is Dambo’s first permanent structure in New York State.
TUPPER LAKE, N.Y. —
The Wild Center in Tupper Lake has successfully raised enough money for a permanent Thomas Dambo Troll.
Tens of thousands of visitors came to the Wild Center this summer to visit the TROLLS: Save the Humans exhibit.
The art collection, by Danish artist Thomas Dambo, travels between woodland campuses. The sculptures are made from reclaimed wood. Each Troll has a name and story that promotes environmental stewardship.
The Wild Center has been fundraising all summer to purchase a permanent sculpture.
The giant Troll, named Patrick Sapling, is New York State’s first permanent Dambo installation. The announcement came just days after Dambo visited Tupper Lake to speak about his work.
Patrick Sapling was built from reclaimed and recycled materials, including salvaged lumber, sawmill offcuts, and locally sourced branches.
