Last seen on the NYC stage in 2025’s Vanya, Scott will now perform Simon Stephens’s monologue, which was written for him in 2008.
Olivier Award winner and Emmy nominee Andrew Scott (Fleabag, All of Us Strangers, Sherlock) will return off Broadway for 19 performances only this fall, performing Simon Stephens’s monologue Sea Wall from October 16-30 at Studio Seaview. The performance will be recorded and released as a feature film at a later date.
Sea Wall centers on a successful photographer, husband, and father whose life turns upside down after a tragic accident. Stephens wrote the monologue for Scott, who performed it in London in 2008 and 2018 and made a 2012 film version with Stephens.
The upcoming live capture is described as being “a film about the creation of theatre” which “will not only feature Scott’s performances, but the complete life of the event surrounding it — backstage, on stage, and in the house, with the audience at each performance serving as an essential character in the feature.”
Tina Satter directs the 2026 staging of Sea Wall. The creative team also includes lighting designer Isabella Byrd and sound designer Ben Williams. For the film, Paul Yee is the director of photography, and Parker Lutz will advise on production design.
Scott returns to the Off-Broadway stage after performing Stephens’s solo adaptation of Uncle Vanya at the Lucille Lortel Theatre in 2025. Sea Wall was previously seen in New York as part of the double bill Sea Wall/A Life, featuring Tom Sturridge (performing Sea Wall) and Jake Gyllenhaal (performing A Life) both on and off Broadway in 2019.
