MASSENA, New York (WWNY) – State police arrested a Massena man early Saturday following a domestic dispute that left a cell phone and a child’s tablet damaged, according to the New York State Police.
Hugh E. Boyd, 34, of Massena, faces charges of criminal contempt in the first degree, criminal mischief in the third degree, criminal mischief in the fourth degree, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
New York State Police said they were notified of a domestic dispute at a residence on County Route 45 in the town of Massena around 3:30 a.m. on September 12, 2026.
An investigation determined Boyd and the victim were involved in a verbal argument that became physical. During the confrontation, Boyd took the victim’s cell phone and damaged it, according to state police. Police say the victim tried to distance themselves from Boyd, but Boyd continued following them throughout the residence.
Children were present during the incident. Boyd also took a tablet belonging to one of the children and damaged it, according to state police.
New York State Police say the victim removed the children from the residence and went to the State Police barracks in Massena. Investigators determined a refrain from stay order of protection was in place, protecting the victim from Boyd.
Boyd was arrested and taken to State Police Massena for processing. He was arraigned in Massena Town Court and remanded to the St. Lawrence County Jail in lieu of $1,000 cash bail, $5,000 bond, or a $10,000 partially secured bond.
