The National Weather Service says it is working to implement the Lake Ontario/Lake America name change.
The organization says work is underway to update naming conventions for online maps, weather products, websites and other materials.
They say the updates should not disrupt any operations.
At the end of last month, President Donald Trump signed an executive order stating the United States will now recognize Lake Ontario as “Lake America.”
This was done during the ongoing tense tariff battle between the U.S. and Canada.
The executive order can not change how other countries name the body of water.
The move came with mixed reactions, especially among those in the community, as the name “Ontario” is an Indigenous word pre-dating European colonization.
